What I am referring to here is the Old Testament Joseph. Joseph’s phase of life was three fold and they are: Misfortune, Dream Interpretation, Prosperity and Reconciliation.
The brothers of Joseph hated him as he was the Father Jacob’s pet and to make matters worse Joseph said that he had a dream and in it he could see all brothers on their knees and worshiping him. The brothers planned to kill him but at the last moment they sold Jacob to the Egyptians. In Egypt Joseph was the master of Potiphar’s household. Potiphar’s wife became enamored with him and forced him to go to bed with her. Joseph would not relent and Potiophar’s wife said to Potiphar that she was molested and had Jacob put in jail. This is a period of Joseph’s misfortune. I don’t want a Joseph to happen to me. In prison he was able to interpret the dreams of the cupbearer and the baker. The cupbearer and baker were released from prison. Then all of a sudden the Pharaoh had a strange dream which no one could interpret. It was like this: seven stout cows came and then seven famished ones came next and ate up the fat cows. Seven strands of fattened grain came and then seven emaciated grain came next and ate the obese strands of grain. The cupbearer told to the Pharaoh of Joseph. Joseph was ushered to the Pharaoh and Joseph said: this is what the dream is: there will be seven years of plenty and after that there will be seven years of famine. The Pharaoh was impressed with his interpretation and made him the minister of Egypt and asked him to collect all the abundance and store in big God Downs. This is a period of Joseph’s prosperity. As Idioms Joseph, means a dream interpreter and also fortune. Then comes Joseph’s period of reconciliation with his brothers. In the beginning he was bit curt with them but later he wept in the privacy of his room and then welcomed the brothers and invited them to come and live in Egypt.
When Joseph was employed in Potiophar’s household, his wife became enamored with Joseph. Joseph declined her amorous advances on moral grounds. This is a poem about the infatuation of Potiphar’s Wife
Your body is bronze…
My lips are
Of morn ….
Is a burning
Lake of fire…
Come my Joseph
Joseph of the Old Testament was employed in Potiphar’s household. Potiphar’s wife became infatuated with him and wanted to sleep with him. Jacob’s moral purity made him resist all her advances and she then gave protest to her husband that Joseph molested her. Joseph was put in jail. As an idiom Potiphar’s wife means one who seduces. I have been enticed by Potiphar’s wife.
Joseph of the Old Testament was held captive in Egypt. While in Jail he was called to interpret the dream of the Pharaoh. The Pharaoh dreamt of seven famished stalks devour seven healthy ones. Then he saw a vision of seven lean cattle gobbling seven fat ones. Joseph said that the dream foretells that there will be a cornucopia in Egypt for seven years followed by famine. Joseph as an idiom means a successful dream interpreter. As another idiom Joseph means restoration to success and establishment by God after a period of trials and tribulations. God Jehovah Christ will make a Joseph occur in my life. Freud was a successful Joseph.
Joseph is found in the Old Testament and he refers as idiom to being a successful dream interpreter, a person with moral scruples and person who comes across fortune and position after a time of hardship.
Example: As far as dreams are concerned Freud was a Joseph.
There are at least few people in the world who are Josephs.
If a Joseph happens to me , I am lucky.
Joseph’s story comes from the Old Testament. He was sold by his brothers to the Egyptians. When Potiphar’s wife asked to bed with him: he refused. He was put in jail. When he interpreted the dream of some prisoners: he was later on called by the Pharaoh to interpret the dreams he had. Joseph with God’s intervention was successful in interpreting the dreams and the Pharaoh made him a minister of Egypt. Joseph as a meaning has got two idioms: one the dream interpreter and the other rising to success after a period of downfall.
Example: Freud was an excellent Joseph.
We should be a Joseph of our dreams.
When will God allow me to become a Joseph?
I would like to be a Joseph of the society.
First of all I would like to explain the types of faith that I obtained from my simple reading of the Bible. One is loyal faith. We find it in abundance in the Biblical Patriarch Abraham and also in Joseph and Daniel and David. Abraham had to wait a hundred years before Sarah conceived and she was ninety. The whole History of the Jewish Nation can be traced to this Father. Abraham did not question why and what and how? Similarly when Daniel was asked to worship pagan idols he bowed his head only to the one and only one God Jehovah. Daniel was cast in the den of lions, in fire but God miraculously released from all his tribulations. Daniel’s faith can also be called as a faith of test. So was Joseph betrayed by his brothers, treacherously put in prison by Pothphar’s who wanted to bed with him and his faith was tested and he was showed that he was uncompromising. So is the case with Job whose faith was tested with mental, physical and emotional massacre. Next let’s examine the faith of the disciples when they were journeying by boat and encountered turbulent waters and the storm. They became afraid and woke Jesus up. Jesus told them that in spite of being close to him their faith were weak and sickly. Next let’s examine the faith of the woman who was hemorrhaging. She merely touched the garb of Jesus and was healed. This is the faith of belief and conviction. Let’s examine the faith of the Centurion whose servant was dying. He did not even want Jesus to come to his house as he felt it unbecoming of him to invite the master. Here also the working of faith is one of belief and conviction. The Bible defines faith as the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.
