When did the History of Literature begin? When man the nomad and hunter began to lead a settled life of cultivation, he had ample leisure time. We have to assume that the art of storytelling began than. It is hard to discriminate between religious-texts and fables. With the introduction of writing, storytelling took a new turn. Early day storytelling was filled with myth making. Examples of these are Greek and Roman legends who invented Gods and Goddesses as having supernatural qualities, and also very surprising is the fact they had an abundance of vices. The Gods and Goddesses of Greece and Rome were self indulgent sybarites and epicureans devoted to a life of pleasure. Along with the development of Storytelling, we find that ancient Greece contributed to the development of rhetorical devices and the most prominent of them being the metaphor and the simile. It is a mystery to know how these forms of literature have developed. Aristotle said: ‘the invention of the metaphor is the work of a genius’. How did these forms develop? They developed due to a collision between language and emotion. When language killed emotion, the stoic mind sought a catharsis in figures of speech. In the postmodern era, many of the tropes that are commonly used have become clichés.
Lexical Species is a new figure of speech. Let’s examine how this happens. The words chosen are Health and Write. Both these words contain an inner word which habituates related meaning. Health contains (Heal) and Write contains (Rite)
I am writing a novel of 30000 Words and I am posting bits and chunks of it in my blog. I am so happy to have been read and liked.
The Novel is called: WORD BECAME FLESH and it is an allegory of the human and the divine in Christ Jesus.
I have denounced all ties with Occult and Satanism and I am fully redeemed in Christ. The Bible is a fantastic Book giving new insights every day. The Bible is the best work of Literature. It does not mean that I don’t encounter temptations; I do, in the walk of life and when I do I rebuke it by the blood of Jesus. The Blood of Jesus is POWER and demons flee. You can heal people with the Blood of Jesus. I have stopped dallying in dating sites and I devote my attention wholeheartedly to my wife. During my trials and tribulations she has stood strong as a rock. I have had multiple affairs and she has forgiven me and given me her heart.
I saw two trees flowered like music in the garden. One was purple flowered and shone in opulence. The other called as Vishu tree Cassia Fistula had bearings of yellow. Vishu is a New Year festival celebrated in Kerala. There’s something called Vishu Keni and it means giving coins for luck throughout the year. There’s also a bumper lottery draw. I wonder who will be the winner this year. Yes, Jehovah has made nature so beautiful. My heart sung a song of Joy. Christ has told me appreciate nature taking joy in little things of life. My heart underwent a passionate catharsis and I felt like I am making love. God is a mystic, engineering nature’s creation.
After coming to God Christ, I have stopped looking lecherously at women. Before coming to Christ I was a lecher. I remember Christ’s words: ‘if your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out’
Joyce was a writer who tried to wean himself away from Catholicism and his writing became an objet d’ art. To what extent was he successful? Remarkable are his epiphanies in prose. Joyce was a person who experimented with the novel. The Ulysses is an epic novel, book of 800 pages covering a life of 12 hrs. I have written a novelette called Fictopia, a novelette lasting only a few seconds. As a writer I am always in search for the avant garde. Joyce was master of streams of consciousness a technique to express the inner consciousness of the writer.
There’s a paradigm shift talking place with the Novel of Postmodernism. There is very little importance given to the plot. I am sorry to say that pulp fiction, easy-go-entertainment-readers are still popular with the masses. Novels should become reader-interpreting texts. A postmodern novel is a philosophical novel of ideas, of innovation, a literature of new idioms, neologisms, new figures of speech, of playing with the language. A postmodern novel is a work of art.
I have discovered a New Figure of Speech called the Allegorical-Pun. Now what is an allegory? It is clothing the language with symbols. The pilgrim’s progress is a classical example of an allegorical novel. A pun is a play of words. My allegorical pun is this. Example: The Lamb became the Lamp. The Lamb is the mortal body of Christ and the Lamp is his divinity. Christ while living on earth balanced his divinity and mortality.
The Raven that Fed Elijah
There is a story in the Old Testament of the Prophet Elijah who had to go into hiding. At that time God send a raven to feed him with meat and bread. As an Idiom it means a God that will satisfy all our material needs. My life is that of a Raven that fed Elijah.
Nature is the solitude of speech. Jesus apply the faith of the mustard seed in my life. The Seed of the Word should pollinate and blossom into a tree of fruit. The Bray of a donkey is better than a gallop of a horse. Pride is a glutton of the soul. Cinema is a screen of life. We should live a life innocent and peaceful as a dove. My journey in the world is tropes of the language. Poverty—you are democracy’s shame. The beginning is patience and the end is victory. Lord immerse me in the pool of luck. Fortune –OH God I am thankful. Perseverance is the angel that pays off. Beauty—thy passion lies in the soul of poetry. The boat is rocking with a huge catch. Christ is a wisdom of literature. Terror is an infidel of religious fanaticism. What comes out of the heart should be goodness. Passion is music of the soul. A missile is an unfriendly gift. Sacrificial figure gave is the dictum: The Way: The truth and the life. Amen is praise uttered. Oh Lord fuel my purse. The word is flesh coming to life. I wear the cap of hope and the garments of righteousness. Fortune is an elixir to drink. My heart is stained glass painting. I became a new born of child of experience after reading the Bible. In the forest of bad luck—there’s a cave of fortune, luck and hope. How to dance to life’s tunes? Life is a fable to be told. The door of opportunity should be opened as soon as possible. Windfall come into my purse and my bank as soon as possible.
My pen is a slave for Christ. An epic of fragmentary thoughts is a monument on stone. I wiped on the towel of luck. I bathed in the sea of hope. My body is a corpse when it comes to adultery and fornication. Lord Christ, personify my body with an epiphany. He watched the watch. Abundance, you are elephant’s tongue. Yield not to the tree of temptation. The blood that cleansed was that of Christ. Anger is a stormy tree. The anatomy of the soul is a precious ornament. Courage is a heart of passion. Pursue your dream and wake up to a reality. Democracy is the victory of votes. Surreal paintings are a story to tell. Sleep is peaceful brook: thanks to God Jesus. Sadness is winter; mirth is summer, melancholy autumn and angst: summer. Don’t make your own feelings a foe. Better to understand the self rather than understanding humanity. The hand of God is a becoming of might miracle. Prejudice is a poisonous vessel. Communism is a God that died and Christ is a God that resurrected. The Bible lives with the literature of life. Poems danced in the sky. Plant your virtue in your soul. The Lilies of the field are the garments of Christ. The Parables of Jesus are the fruit of living a good life on earth. Sin—I stamp you down like a Serpent. Tear the Tear. Jesus is a canopy of Joy and Peace. Hope of the Night is Luck of the morning. The sword will kneel before the pen. It is better to believe in God rather than in fate. I am like a prodigal son who returned to the Father. Lord Give All Days Your Daily bread. Philosophy is fertilizer for the mind. Poems on the branch of the tree, spoke beatitudes. Her stomach was swollen like a pumpkin. Dress the habit of thought with goodness. Positive thinking is a flower of thought. Adultery—you are whore of the body. Passion is an aristocrat and pleasures a king. Mind you erect splendid monuments. Appreciate Dawn like Shelly the poet. Christmas chimes the bell of gifts. Romanticism is the sculpture of feeling. Existentialism is a corpse of the absurd. Bad Luck I drown you in a river. God favor me with windfall this day. I dwell in the sea of happiness. A positive attitude is a heart of beauty. Time of eternity is an enigma. The chosen belong to the Parable of the Seed that fell on rich and fertile ground. Lexis is the flower of the Word: Logs the Heart: and Agape the fruit. Time is a busy bee. Fortune has the footsteps of a galloping horse. Writing is the art of life. When will God bless me with the riches of the earth? Resilience is a soldier ready for war. Jesus is the cornerstone rejected by the masons. Gandhi is the symbol for an Independent and democratic India. I pour my feelings into the vessel of the heart. Put on a hat of patience and wear the blazed of celebration. With Jesus: there are no stones in the heart. Riches of the earth temporary but the riches of the earth are permanent. Waltz of life, you are a poem to live. A hardened heart, a fearful soul, a despairing mind and a disbelieving body are all an emanating hell.
Biblification is a technique of hermeneutics where meanings of the Bible are taken from their context and applied in real life. Jesus said: if you have faith as small as mustard seed: you can cast the mountain into sea. Faith as a Mustard seed is a simile. Lord Teach me to have faith as small as a mustard seed. Yes, we have to affirm that faith can achieve all things. In the psalms it is said: ‘The Lord God will give the continents as present and the nations as a gift’. What a marvelous of prosperity it is. It is said in Isaiah: ‘I will give you the treasures of darkness and the riches hidden in secret places.’
The stillness of the night was deafening—the crickets sang in harmony—the sky had eyes that twinkled—the big eye of the sky shone a beautiful aura of light—night serenaded like a painting—I am filled with love and I thank God for giving me the blessing to appreciate nature.
Rheteroclasm from Rhetoric and Iconoclasm is a new figure of speech where nature is contrasted with two unlike things. For example: the stillness of the night was deafening.
I had a strange dream today. In this dream I and my wife were working in Indonesia. There was a rock concert and we were planning to go for it. I had given 100$ to be changed at the school office. When I went there they gave me back the 100$. Then we were going in a car for the rock concert. When the car stopped in one place, I got out to buy cigarettes and when I came back there was no one in sight.
I thank almighty God for giving me a good erection. My wife became a poetic bed in the night; she transformed herself into an erotic poem. I have come to the conclusion that nothing is impossible wit God.
It walked miles and miles on the earth. It recorded nature’s symbolism. The master used to polish it and make it shine. One day it was invited to do adultery. As it walked on earth—the head started spinning—it fell on to the hard floor of the airport and bled. Now it has come to Christ and is a merciful and repentant thief. No amount of storms will make it change. After a long period of serving the master, its surface came off. The master replaced it with a new one.
Biblification is a new hermeneutic, interpretative tool of turning Bible incidents into idioms. For example Daniel in the Old Testament signifies Loyalty. Wedding at Cana is a miracle happening in life. Coin from the fish mouth, when Jesus asks the disciples to take a coin from the fish mouth and pay the taxes is an idiom for getting a financial bounty or having lucky windfall.
Catch of the Net
This happened in the New Testament. The disciples were fishing and caught nothing. Then Jesus said cast your nets on to the other side. They did and they got a cornucopia of a catch. Catch of the Net is an idiom for financial prosperity.
In the Gospel is recorded this parable. A man had two sons. The father asked the first to go and work in the vineyard. The son was not willing but later on he went. Then the man asked his second son to go and work in the field. The son didn’t go. Then Christ asked which of these sons will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. They replied. Then Christ said: it is the prostitutes and sinners who heard my word and obeyed my commands will go to heaven. Heaven has no place for
Pharisees and Sadducees.
Pharisees and Sadducees
While Jesus was doing his ministry on earth it was Pharisees and the Sadducees who were highly critical of him and condemned his miracles as hocus pocus abracadabra. Pharisees as an idiom means thickheaded and stubborn. The teacher in our school is a Pharisee. Sadducees cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.
Lexiphor after lexicon and metaphor is a new figure of speech where a word is used to portray two shades of meaning. Example: He is a shallow person. The water in the river is shallow.
I bring this new term again and I hope in future it will be considered as literary device. Lexical Polygamy is the literal absorption of the meaning of a text (claiming the meaning) by not taking into account the contextual significance. For example in the Bible in Psalms it says: ‘I the Lord will give you the nations as a present and the continents as a gift’. What a marvelous verse and I have written it in my purse and I keep reading it every day.
